The skills run inside the AI tool you already use, on your own work. You don’t need an account on this site.
Pick an install path
Section titled “Pick an install path”Two uploads in total: the coach, and the seven Build Cycle skills combined into one file.
-
Download practice-coach.zip and build-cycle-skills.zip (available with the first release).
-
In Claude, open Customize → Skills, choose to upload a skill, and pick
practice-coach.zip. Don’t unzip it first. Claude expects the zip file itself. -
Upload
build-cycle-skills.zipthe same way. -
Check that code execution is turned on in Claude’s settings. Skills need it. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an admin may need to turn it on for you.
-
Start a new chat and say what you’re working on. Try: “I want to stop rewriting the same weekly update every Friday. Coach me.”
Whether the Free plan supports uploaded skills is still being tested. Paid plans (Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise) do.
The plugin installs the coach, all seven skills and git-coach in one go. In Claude Code, run:
/plugin marketplace add WomenDefiningAI/aipracticecommons/plugin install aipracticecommons@womendefiningaiSkills show up with the plugin’s name in front, for example /aipracticecommons:prove-it. Everyday phrasing such as “coach me” or “is this right?” works too.
While the repository is private, only people with access to it on GitHub can install the plugin. Installing it in Customize → Plugins on claude.ai comes once the repository is public.
The commons also runs as a connector, so Claude can search the concept cards, blueprints, catalogue and skills while you work. It is read-only and needs no sign-in. (Available once the site is live.)
- claude.ai or Claude Desktop: open Customize → Connectors → Add custom connector, paste
https://aipracticecommons.org/mcp, and choose No sign-in. - Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http aipracticecommons https://aipracticecommons.org/mcp.
With the connector on, you can use any commons skill without installing it: ask Claude to “get frame-the-problem from the commons and run it with me.”
The practice pack is one plain-text file with the coaching loop, the skills and a short catalogue. Paste it into the start of a conversation in any AI chat, on any plan, including free ones and Copilot. (Available with the first release.)
It works in any chat, but the whole file loads at once instead of one skill at a time, so use it for one focused session.
Known snags
Section titled “Known snags”- Your computer unzips the download automatically. Some browsers and Macs do this. Upload the
.zipfile, not the folder. If you only have a folder, compress it again with the folder itself at the top level. - “Skills need code execution.” Turn on code execution in Claude’s settings, or ask your admin.
- The skill doesn’t kick in. Name it: “use prove-it on this”, or say “coach me”. Each skill also responds to everyday phrasing such as “is this right?” or “I’m stuck”.
- Too many questions? Say “just do it”. The skill does the task, notes what it skipped, and stops offering for the rest of the session.
Then try one blueprint
Section titled “Then try one blueprint”A blueprint is a short card for one small build: the smallest useful version, how to check it, and how to break it on purpose to see where it fails.
- Turn messy notes into a status draft you can check, about 25 minutes
- All blueprints
After that, the skills page lists what each skill does and how to call it, and the concept cards explain the AI ideas the skills use.
